Sacred Choral Treasures

We return to the stunning Holy Cross Catholic Church for an evening of soaring choral music, moving texts and sacred sounds through the ages. You’ll hear the jubilant Ecce Vicit Leo for double-choir penned by Peter Philips in 1613, celebrating the triumph of the resurrection. A hundred years later, Antonio Lotti crafted his beloved Crucifixus, an achingly beautiful Baroque masterpiece layering dramatic suspensions illuminating our sorrow and the agony of the cross. In a deeply contemplative devotion to Mary and Jesus, Henryk Górecki wrote his Totus Tuus (“totally yours”) during the Soviet occupation of Poland to be sung for the Pope in the public square in peaceful protest. Rarely heard, you’ll be immersed in the boldly chromatic Ave Maria D’Aosta by Jaakko Montyjarvi of Finland, Antongnini’s colorful I touch God that finds our Creator in nature as “in love, I pay my endless debt to thee,” and immerse yourself in the iconic Ancient Prairie by Ešenvalds, rounding out these sublime choral gems in a deeply satisfying serenade.
