The work honors the role of Mary in the story of Jesus, highlights the miracle of birth and importance of eternally strong family bonds, and pairs traditional sounds and divine moments from the Christmas story with more modern human reflections inspired by the poignant poetry of Patricia Monaghan. Takach and Hagen have expertly weaved their libretto of poetry and carols, and composed a moving work with familiar musical touchstones while invoking more modern reflections and sensibilities. “We were drawn to this story as parents.
