Sing Noel!
During this radiant season of light, come and celebrate the joy of Christmas with the voices of Magnum Chorum! You’ll hear Olaf Christiansen’s nostalgic Sing Nowell, Sing Gloria and Steve Heitzeg’s little tree with tender poetry by e. e. cummings. Shimmering in choral beauty, you’ll savor Whitacre’s Lux Aurumque (golden light) and O Magnum Mysterium by Slovenian composer Andrej Makor. Our centerpiece is Britten’s Ceremony of Carols with harp, penned during the composer’s sea voyage from United States to England. Its eleven movements sing of Christ’s birth, Mary’s lullaby for the slumbering child, discord on earth, how This Little Babe will surprise the gates of hell, and our gratitude to God for our redemption. Heartfelt carols, a joyous African Noel proclaiming Christ’s birth and melodic music by Herzogenberg and Forrest round out this sparkling serenade.
