Let All the World in Every Corner Sing!
Music from around the world to intrigue and delight! A joyful Sigalagala from Kenya proclaims celebration in Jesus’ presence. Hints of spring, life and light infuse There is Sweet Music Here by Canadian Stephen Chatman who sets poetry by Tennyson, Shelly and Blake to charming melodies with oboe. From the Russian Orthodox Church you’ll hear the majestic O Lord God by Tschesnokov, from Norway a tender Norge Mitt Norge, Venezuelan composer Carrillo offers a jazzy Salve Regina, and Australia’s Sarah Hopkins delivers Past Life Melodies drawing on Aboriginal song. At the heart of our program is the Son of God Mass by English composer James Whitbourn, which brings the soulfulness of soprano saxophone into powerful communion with voices. We return home with a premiere of Ralph Johnson’s Night Watch with texts by Native American healer, Owl Woman, shepherding a soul from this world to the next. Join us for this celebration of culture and music to bring warmth to a cool February evening.
