Pieta Collaboration Concert

Magnum Chorum joins the world renowned St. Olaf Choir and Dr. Anton Armstrong for extraordinary evenings of music featuring the epic new work, Pietà, by composer John Muehleisen. This profoundly moving tour de force explores themes of compassion, forgiveness, mercy, justice and love as a means to healing and restoring human relationships. Muehleisen’s dramatic oratorio touches on the love between mothers and sons through scenes from World War I, the end of the life of Jesus, and modern stories of loss. It draws on chorales by Bach, Biblical texts and poets Wilfred Owen, William Blake, and Violet Fane, and offers a powerful “Alleluia” and message of healing and love found in Romans 12, “let not your hearts be troubled.” Come immerse yourself in magnificent and moving performances in Boe Memorial Chapel on the St. Olaf College campus in Northfield, or at St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church in Mahtomedi.
